Classes

Texas License To Carry

A LTC applicant must complete classroom training per DPS standards, pass a written examination and pass a proficiency demonstration (shooting).

NRA Basic Pistol

Teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for owning and operating different pistols safely. Class is 8 hours, size is 6-10 individuals. This is an NRA Class that you will sign up for through the NRA site. Note, this class is being revamped and will be a blended online/classroom/range class.

GFT Introduction to Handguns

This is a short-form class I developed to replace the NRA FIRST Class. Three to four hours classroom plus range time introducing the student to firearms. You should have your own firearm but a very limited number without one can be accommodated.

Private/On site

These three classes can be done as a private class for one or two individuals or can be done at your site. Arrangements for range time may have to made at a range near your locale.

No Freeman Shall Be Debbard the Use Of Arms

The Texas License to Carry (LTC), formerly the Concealed Handgun License (CHL) course, is not intended to teach an individual the basics of how to fire or handle a handgun. It is intended to teach the requirements of having a Texas LTC: the laws that relate to weapons and to the use of deadly force; handgun use and safety; nonviolent dispute resolution, and proper storage practices for handguns, including storage practices that eliminate the possibility of accidental injury to a child. The shooting proficiency portion is to insure that the individual can properly handle and accurately shoot a handgun.

One of the best ways to gain the skill necessary to insure successful completion of the CHL course is an introductory handgun class.  The NRA offers the Basic Pistol Course, a (soon to be) blend of online, classroom, and range instruction of about 8 hours total. GFT offers a introductory class with 3-4 hours of classroom followed by range time.
